On the highest mountain of Samos Kerkis Mt. there are 5 main footpath and pass to hike through the steep rocky terrain to reach the top Vigla at 1433m (4,701 ft). For all of theam you need to cover by foot almost the same distance and dipent of the season, the timing and the group experience we choose the best of them.
During the summer time the most of times we choose the most popular way to hike from the south. Beginning on the southern side of the island, in Marathokambos village. After passing through a small forest, you will reach the rocky terrain of the mountain with its’ unique whitish color due to the high chalk content. Some small churches are found along its slopes. The area is sanctuary to several endangered plants and animals and so has become part of European Union’s Natura 2000 network of protected sites.
The terrain is rocky and although the route may be physically demanding it is not technically. We will make sufficient stops so everyone can keep up. The views are breathtaking!
On a clear day you can see the neighboring islands and even Turkey coastal in the offing.
Moonlight hiking from June-September (twice per month). The starting time is demanding because of the sunset time.
Note: Free transportation from and to locations <10km from meeting point
